Welcome to Hotel con Corazón. We’re happy
to introduce you to our family!
On this page we’re going to tell you
everything about our family: where do we come from, why are we building this
hotel, what’s our history?
Our story starts with Onno and Marcello,
two boys, born and raised in Nicaragua. A beautiful country, not so far from
our beloved Mexico. However, at the age of 20 Marcello decided to move to
Oaxaca, Mexico as he saw the opportunity to build a living in this interesting,
foreign country.
After about 8 years in Oaxaca, Marcello
met the love of his life: the Mexican girl Martha. He took her out on several
dates and after two years, they got married! In the meanwhile Marcello got a
job at a language school in Oaxaca. This is where he learned a lot about
tourism and got to improve his English dramatically.
Two years after their marriage Marcello
and Martha received their first child: Helena. A beautiful, intelligent half
Nicaraguan-Mexican girl who later would turn out to be a great teacher. But,
before we get to much ahead of time, there came a second child.
Marcello’s and Martha’s second child
turned out to be a boy: Pablo. An optimistic boy with a big passion for
everything related to the outdoors and nature. During his childhood he and his
father, Marcello, often went out and about to explore the area of Oaxaca. At a
later age, when he was studying, Pablo met the gorgeous Paula, with whom he
later got married and got a child, Diego.
But, we need to take a step back! Way
before Pablo even met Paula, Marcello and Martha got a third child: Sofia.
Their third (and last) child. A shy, modest and friendly girl. During her
childhood Sofia would often cook and bake the most delicious Mexican dishes
together with her mother, Martha. At a later age she met the intelligent and
ambitious Antonio. Together they got a daughter, Mia.
So, that’s quite a story, right?
So now that we’ve told you who we are,
it’s time to tell you a little more about where we’re heading. To explain this
we need to talk about Onno. Remember him? That’s Marcello’s brother. We talked
about him way back at the beginning. Now, Onno stayed in Nicaragua. Eight years
ago he started a hotel: Hotel con Corazón. This hotel invests its profits into
the local youth’s education. A beautiful initiative that works. In eight
years time the hotel supported the education of many, many children.
Especially Helena felt very inspired by
Onno’s initiative. As a teacher she knows how much a hotel like this would
benefit the children in Oaxaca. And that’s why she has motivated her family to
start a second Hotel con Corazón in Oaxaca.
With success: the family has decided to
work together to build a second Hotel con Corazón in Oaxaca. Everybody will put
his or her skills to use to create the best possible hotel. Just like the hotel
in Granada, Nicaragua Hotel con Corazón Mexico will invest all profits into the
local education.
Since everybody has their own talents,
every family member will do something different. Here’s how:
- Marcello will take care of the
entrepreneurship and local partners and contracts
- Martha will make sure the
‘couleur locale’ is visible: she brings the Oaxaca vibe into the hotel
- Helena will make sure all our
profits are invested in education. She also organizes educational activities
in and around the hotel.
- Pablo will focus on making sure
the hotel’s sustainable and uses mainly local, ecological products
- Sofia will make sure the hotel
provides a good breakfast and some nice snacks/drinks for during the day
- Paula will work behind the
reception and make sure everybody feels welcome
- Antonio will take care of the
professional service and brings in a bit of European style since he was
born and raised in Spain
- Diego, son of Pablo and Paula,
brings fun to the hotel!
- Mia, daughter of Sofia and
Antonio, brings in a bit of extra creativity and helps Paula to give
everybody the feeling they’re at home
And now?
Well, that’s it! By working together and
putting their talents and skills to use, the family will create a successful,
sustainable hotel where guests will feel right at home. The perfect place to
stay when visiting Oaxaca, Mexico.
